«GEOPARQUES: Memoria de la Tierra, futuro para las personas»

In the 38th meeting of the European Geopark Network Coordination Committee, Sierra Norte de Sevilla UNESCO Global Geopark was appointed to organise the 15th European Geopark Conference, to be held in Seville in September 2019.

Geopark Conferences are one of the main cooperation and dissemination activities of the European Geopark Network, and are held every two years in one of the network’s geoparks.

The Conference is a congress organised in several theme sessions, with speakers, workshops, master conferences and visits to the organising geopark. Geopark conferences welcome numerous participants: protected area managers, sustainable development managers, geologists, biologists and Earth Science experts, educators, scientists, etc., representing a fundamental venue for all individuals and institutions related to sustainable development in Geoparks and nature areas.

For the organisation of this Conference, an Organising Committee and a Scientific Committee have been created, with representatives from different social sectors, institutions and administrations involved in the study, management and sustainable use of our natural and cultural geological heritage, together with experts of renowned prestige on a national and international scale.

The slogan chosen for this conference is “Memory of Earth, future for people”, focusing on the Sustainable Development of Geoparks and Protected Nature Areas.

The Conference is supplemented by several routes to significant locations in the Sierra Norte de Sevilla Geopark, and with the possibility of several post-conference visits to the Andalusian Sierras Subbéticas Geopark and the city of Seville.

The 44th meeting of the European Geopark Network’s Coordination Committee will take place on the days prior to the European Geopark Conference; this is the decision-making body of the Network, and it analyses the activities that took place in previous months, relations with different international agencies and past and future cooperation projects.
